Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (May 17, 2024) - Continuing its commitment to excellence in culinary offerings, Velas Resorts announces its Cocina de Autor restaurants in the Grand Velas Los Cabos and Grand Velas Riviera Maya have received one MICHELIN star each in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide to Mexico. Dinner at both restaurants is included in the all-inclusive resorts' nightly rate.
Cocina de Autor in Los Cabos is headed up by two MICHELIN star chef Sidney Schutte and Francisco Sixto. On Mexico's Caribbean Coast, Cocina de Autor is headed up by Chef Nahum Velasco, originally from Mexico City. The multi-course tasting experiences at both properties are designed to enhance the palate, highlighting the diversity of Mexican cuisine and local ingredients. An included drink pairing highlights Mexican wines and ancestral spirits.
Award-winning chefs Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso created the concept of Cocina de Autor for Grand Velas Resorts, and the team continues to consult on all aspects of the restaurant at the Grand Velas Riviera Maya.
The menus are inspired by Mexican traditions and culture, and local produce and food products are showcased. Both restaurants are among other standout restaurants at each resort, offering varied cuisines. "Since both restaurants opened, our mission has been delivering a MICHELIN quality sensorial dining experience," said Juan Vela Ruiz, Vice President of Velas Resorts. "And now, with MICHELIN reviewing restaurants for the first time in Mexico, it's especially meaningful to us that our Cocina de Autor restaurants were awarded a MICHELIN star."
"We take immense pride in being the only all-inclusive hotel group with two MICHELIN-starred restaurants. In the MICHELIN Guide to Mexico only 18 restaurants were awarded MICHELIN stars. This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to break the mold of traditional offerings and create new, exciting experiences for our well-traveled and discerning guests, while staying true to our value promise," he continued.
Guests staying at Velas Resorts' new property: Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos, can dine at Cocina de Autor in Los Cabos, which is included in their all-inclusive rate. The restaurants are also available to the public with reservations.
